Who is responsible

Esmé Bergh, Violinist, trading as I Love My Violin. If you want anything on this page explained or acted on, email berghesme@gmail.com.

What this site collects

  • When you ask for an estimate. Your name, email address, phone number, the date of your event, the venue you enter, how long you want music for, and anything you type into the notes. I need all of it to give you a figure and to reply.
  • When you send a testimonial. Your name, the venue, the date and what you wrote, plus your tick on the consent box. Nothing goes on the site unless you ticked it.
  • When you visit. Visits are counted anonymously with Vercel Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not identify you.
  • Nothing else. There is no advertising pixel and no third-party tracker. That is also why there is no cookie banner: there are no cookies to ask you about.

What I do with it

I reply to you, I work out a price, and if you book me I use the details to turn up at the right place on the right day. I do not sell it, I do not share it with anyone who is not needed to run the site, and I do not put you on a mailing list. I have no mailing list.

Where it goes

Enquiries reach my personal email inbox. The site is hosted on Vercel, whose servers may be outside South Africa and outside Canada, which means your details cross a border on the way to me. Both South Africa's POPIA and Canada's PIPEDA allow that, and mentioning it is part of doing it properly.

How long I keep it

Two years, then it is deleted. Your enquiry and everything attached to it is removed 24 months after you sent it, or 24 months after your event if that is later. Nothing is archived and nothing is kept in a shortened form. The record goes.

Two years because a wedding is often booked more than a year ahead and couples come back for anniversaries, so that is the period the information is actually useful for. Neither South Africa's POPIA nor Canada's PIPEDA sets a fixed number. Both say the same thing: keep personal information only as long as the purpose needs it.

This is not a sentence on a page. A job runs every day and deletes whatever has passed the two years, so it happens whether or not anyone remembers. If you want your details gone before then, ask and they go.

Your rights

You can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email berghesme@gmail.com and say which. I will do it and tell you when it is done. If you sent a testimonial and change your mind, say so and it comes off the site.

In South Africa these rights sit under the Protection of Personal Information Act. In Canada they sit under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. You do not need to quote either at me.

Links out

The songbook links out to Spotify so you can hear a song before you ask for it. Those are ordinary links. Following one takes you to Spotify, who have their own privacy policy, and nothing about you is sent to them from here.
