Weddings, restaurants, festivals and one or two places I did not expect to end up. All three instruments are in here somewhere.
- Canada is not new to me. I lived and worked there, and it has always held a special place in my life.
- From my time in Canada. The piano came first, long before the violin, and it has never quite gone away.
- From my time in Canada, and an instrument worth kneeling next to.
- Mid-ceremony, under the trees, which is where a lot of the best ones happen.
- Mid-phrase, and looking at you rather than at the music. Most of a wedding is played from memory.
- Late light over the water on a Highveld farm. Outdoors is where most South African weddings happen.
- Close enough to the table to take a request, far enough not to be in the photographs.
- On the rocks at low tide. The sea is loud, so this one was for the photographs.
- Not every moment is solemn.
- The moment it all lands, which is usually about four bars into whatever I am playing.
- Playing through the reception, close enough to the tables to take requests.
- A wedding in the forest. Small, quiet, and one of my favourite settings to play in.
- The accordion, which I started in 2022 and which restaurants love.
- Not always alone. Duo, trio and quartet bookings are available in South Africa.
- Waiting for the ceremony to start, which is most of the job.
- Between sets at a garden venue. A long day is mostly waiting, and the waiting is part of the job.
- The violin travels everywhere with me, which is how a coastal ceremony in the morning and a reception that evening both work.
Two evenings worth naming
The Andrea Bocelli event
I performed in the VIP Diamond Lounge at the Andrea Bocelli event, playing to guests before and between the main programme.
A Gatsby evening
A Gatsby-inspired celebration, where live violin carried the whole atmosphere of the room.
